Discover the original work of seven local musical theater writing teams in the newest installment of MusiCoLab’s Showcase Series. The program will feature 2 songs from each of the following works-in-progress:
The showcase will also include an excerpt from In The Temple of the Honky Tonk, music and lyrics by Michael Ogborn, book by Jen Childs and Michael Ogborn, conceived and directed by Bill Fennelly. MusiCoLab will produce a developmental workshop of the new musical in August, and is excited to share a short preview of this work-in-progress in its June showcase.
Ten minutes of excerpts from each work will be presented by an ensemble of versatile local musical theater performers, accompanied by music director Ben Kapilow, the resident musical director at Media Theater. Our cast on June 24 includes Sydney Banks, Aaron Bell, Rachel Brennan, Elena Camp, Ben Dibble and Nancie Sanderson, along with cellists Matt Mastronardi and Justin Yoder.

The MusiCoLaboratory meets the third Sunday of every month, starting January 21. A monthly meetup of musical theater creators in the greater Philly area. Come to share your newest work and exchange information and feedback with generous, supportive colleagues.
Zoom Office Hours - Starting February 5, executive director Charlie Gilbert will hold an online office hour at 10am on the first Monday of each month.

In the summer of 2023, we presented a workshop-style production of Goosefeathers! (no sets or costumes, semi-staged, semi-script in hand) at the Louis Bluver Theater at the Drake. The performance was the culmination of a week of developmental work on the piece, and audiences were invited to stay and share feedback with the artistic team after the show. The original work of seven Philadelphia-based musical theater writing teams was featured in the most recent installment of MusiCoLab’s Showcase Series, presented at the Drake Proscenium Theater on Monday, June 26. The eleventh edition of our New Works Showcase is planned for Monday, June 24, 2024. The online program for the June 2023 showcase is here.
In just five years MusiCoLab has produced eight showcases featuring 91 songs by 43 regional composers and lyricists.
