Submission Guidelines

MusiCoLab welcomes submissions from writers and composers creating new musical theater works in the Philadelphia region. Throughout the year, we produce a diverse slate of programming designed to serve musical theater works at various stages of development.

One of the key aspects of our mission is to cultivate a supportive community of musical theater creators for networking, professional and artistic development in the Philadelphia region. Our Production Opportunities

First and foremost, MusiCoLab seeks to create a supportive creative community for writers and composers in the greater Philadelphia area who are creating new musicals. We want to know who you are and what you're working on, regardless of your level of experience and the status of your current project.

We offer several avenues for developing and showcasing new work:

Spotlight Series - Half-hour excerpts from selected works-in-progress
Showcases - Ten-minute excerpts from musicals in development
Developmental Workshops - Extended focus on a single promising work
Song Evenings/Cabarets - Platforms for individual songs and songwriters

What We're Looking For

Original musical theater works with compelling stories and distinctive musical voices
Projects that demonstrate creative ambition and thoughtful craft
Works that reflect diverse perspectives and experiences

How to Submit

MusiCoLab offers various performance and production opportunities, and specific submission requirements may change based on the project(s) that are currently active. Typically, we request:

Cover Letter introducing you and your work
Project Materials including synopsis, character breakdown, script sample, and 3-5 musical selections
Creative Team Information with brief bios and Philadelphia connection

Selection Process

Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis by our artistic team, with specific submission deadlines for particular projects or opportunities. Your submission may be considered for our Spotlight Series, Showcases, Developmental Workshops, or Song Evenings/Cabarets based on your work's stage of development and our programming needs.
